I know this has been floating around the interwebs for some time now, but today I finally grabbed this user icon from someone during my "I hate Math" GMAT study break.
I heard about this book from an interview with some of the contributors on NPR. So, when Miron and I were perusing B&N the other day, I decided to pick it up. So far, I've only read Lynne Tillman's The Recipe, and it was fantastic. The back of the book describes Chick Lit this way:
"Chick lit: A genre of fiction that often recycles the following plot: Girl in big city desperately searches for Mr. Right in between dieting and shopping for shoes. Girl gets dumped (sometimes repeatedly). Girl finds Prince Charming."
From Tillman's story, I can already see that this book has accomplished what it set out to do: Show that there are women writers out there with imagination, skill and something substantial to say.
We also picked up Roald Dahl's The Vicar of Nibbleswicke for Lauroo, who had lost her copy. Highly recommended as well, but more for it's silly humor, as it is obviously a children's book.
